Page Mission

A mission is an ongoing effort towards a goal. The goal of this page is to share thoughts, opinions, resources, advocacy, and research largely on the field of education and the politics and policies that shape it and affect it…however the author is a human with other interests.

Each piece presented on this page is guided by a personal commitment to integrity, intellectual curiosity, and dedicated to being a true and thoughtful expression of the moment it was written in. All opinions, ideas, and perspectives are subject to change through the course of time, the development of research, and the vantage point hindsight. Opinions are, therefore, not presented as fixed conclusions, but as part of an ongoing conversation—open to refinement through evidence, reflection, and dialogue.

The mission, then, is to grow by pursuing progress and engaging complexity rather than avoiding it.

Discussion is not only encouraged—it is essential to the process of growing.

Who is Brandon Melendez?

Dr. Brandon Melendez, Ed. D. is a New York based educator who has taught and learned at every level from pre-K to graduate students. He has a Bachelor of Arts in American Urban Studies from Metropolitan College of New York,  Master of Arts in Childhood Education and Childhood Special Education from New York University, a Master of Science of Education in School Leadership from Niagara University, and an Education Doctorate from Hofstra University. Melendez has worked for over 20 years in the field of education and is a strong advocate for challenging students at every level of ability and at every level of study to develop the best version of themselves. Working in venues of public schools, private, and non for profit schools, he has been a tenured New York City School Teacher, a  New York Area School Leader and Educational Researcher, a committee leader, a PTA executive board member, and often works as adjunct faculty at Hofstra University and elsewhere. He’s also an unabashed nerd, with an embarrassingly large collection of comics books, vintage video games, and t-shirts he’s too sentimental to get rid of.
